That's my Volunteer ID
First time volunteer for a relief operation, yo!
Proud?
Yes.
This is the very first time that I volunteered for a relief operation. Before, I would just send donations then that's it. But this time, I know I really had to do more. This one hit me so bad that I don't want to stay at home anymore and just send out donations. It's so hard to see people you know losing everything. Some of our friends are really back to zero. This is the very first time that I felt guilty that I was taking a bath. SERIOUSLY! As in, gusto kong maiyak that I'm living comfortably while my other friends and (sorry to sound patriotic) countrymen are in pain.
So as soon as my mom and I gathered all our donations, we headed to San Mateo to help out especially the people from St. Joseph Foundation. The place was dark and there was mud everywhere. We even saw dead animals along the street. It seriously crushed me. Then if you look closely along the sidewalks, people were actually sleeping on the pavements. My mom couldn't look at them. We could only do so much. We reached the place where the social workers from St. Joseph Foundation were staying and dropped off all the goods. We made a few more trips back to bring all the things that they need.
Our clothes to be donated in San Mateo.
I then went to Ateneo to help out in the relief operation. As we were waiting to be deployed, we helped out first with the sorting of the clothes. Sabi nga nila, mukha raw akong nagshshopping sa ukay-ukay. Pero kebs. I'm making a package for a family of 6 and I want them to have the best set. The Ateneo Covered Courts seemed to be one big reunion as well. I saw almost everyone that I haven't seen since I graduated. From WYA members, to GK members, to old blockmates, old TNT friends etc.
We then got deployed to GK Brookside. We handed out over 4000 bags. I know it's not enough but it's a good start. I got to meet people from all walks of life too. Para ngang na-test ang aking social skills. It was unity at its finest. I wish that I could have talked to the people from Brookside, but it was almost midnight when we finished unloading the trucks.
All the tinapays for Brookside. Inside Frank's car.
I hurriedly drove home so that I could go with my mom back to San Mateo. But she left me already. Haha! Mommy talaga.
Masaya lang ako at this point na kahit papaano nakatulong. At masaya rin ako na nakita ko kung paano magtulong-tulong yung mga tao para makatulong sa iba. You should have seen the number of people sa Cov Courts.:)
Tomorrow is a new day! Hopefully we can reach out to more people. I know we will. Let's do this, Pinas!:)
PS:
Whoever thought of this campaign is bleh.
